AXA NGO Employee Award (2017)

AXA’s employees have chosen our project “Saving More Women in Cameroon Through Uterine Cancer Prevention” as the winner of their 5th Charity Initiative competition. Thanks to this award, we will be able to save lives through preventative cancer care in Cameroon.
.When we speak of diseases in Africa, we are usually referring to HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, etc. Even so, non-communicable diseases such as cancer, hypertension, and diabetes account for 80% of continent-wide morbidity. According to the World Health Organization, in Africa 68,000 women die each year due to uterine cancer (also known as

. cervical cancer ), 80% of which could have been prevented with an adequate prevention program.

99% of cervical cancer is caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV.) A woman´s cancer risk is drastically lowered with regular HPV screenings. If the virus is detected early, the necessary measures can be taken in order to prevent its spread.
