Meningitis


 
Meningitis is an infectious illness in the membranes that covers the central nervous system (meninges). It could be especially dangerous because it causes irreversible brain damages and even death if it is not treated on time. The big world meningitis epidemics in the last 100 years have taken place in “the meningitis belt” of Sub-Saharan Africa, making this area the highest meningitis rate of the world. This area includes also the northern part of Cameroon.

Fundación Recover supports the early diagnosis, detection of epidemics and the provision of antibiotics. Furthermore, carry out massive vaccination campaigns to population in risk (children and teenagers). The goal is to promote intervention of primary prevention of the illness through sensibility and vaccination campaigns to achieve high immunity rates against de illness.
