{"id":3760,"date":"2024-01-30T13:40:45","date_gmt":"2024-01-30T12:40:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fundacionrecover.org\/?p=4720"},"modified":"2024-05-30T18:41:01","modified_gmt":"2024-05-30T16:41:01","slug":"from-theory-to-practice-we-train-health-care-professionals-in-the-field","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fundacionrecover.org\/en\/de-la-teoria-a-la-practica-asi-capacitamos-a-los-profesionales-sanitarios-en-terreno\/","title":{"rendered":"From theory to practice: how we train health professionals in the field"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to the collaboration between the Recover Foundation and the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Colegio Oficial de Farmac\u00e9uticos de Madrid (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cofm.es\/es\/\" target=\"_blank\">Official College of Pharmacists of Madrid<\/a>the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Consejo General de Colegios Oficiales de Farmac\u00e9uticos (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.farmaceuticos.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">General Council of Official Associations of Pharmacists<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icomem.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Ilustre Colegio de M\u00e9dicos de Madrid (opens in a new tab)\">Illustrious College of Physicians of Madrid<\/a>In the last month, we have been able to carry out different training projects among health workers in several health centres in Cameroon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From paediatric procedures to pharmaceutical management, the aim is to modernise and improve the quality of working protocols in Cameroon's health centres, as well as to improve access to the health system for the most disadvantaged groups, especially women and children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fundacionrecover.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/De_teoria_a_practica_02.jpg\" alt=\"Maria Fernandez, paediatric surgeon, working in Cameroon\" class=\"wp-image-4716\" style=\"width:522px;height:377px\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Maria Fernandez, paediatric surgeon, working in Cameroon<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Children's health is a priority<\/strong><br> Mar\u00eda Fern\u00e1ndez, a paediatric surgeon at the CU Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital in Murcia, worked closely with local medical professionals in Cameroon. By consulting and studying patients' clinical cases with them, she quickly found ways to improve the quality of medical care for children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maria managed to introduce manoeuvres and techniques that are common in Spanish paediatrics, emphasising the importance of thorough initial examinations. \"In Cameroon, many diagnostic tests are ordered before the patient has been touched or observed,\" she explains, having just returned from her trip. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, in order to correctly manage the data collected and to facilitate the work of the healthcare staff, Mar\u00eda opted for the systematisation of the information: \"I am the paediatrician who has to deal with the graphs and the constants taken frequently\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Supported at all times by the Recover Foundation, she has managed to save lives by combating cases of malnutrition in babies and cerebral malaria, experiences she describes as \"gratifying\" and \"moving\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fundacionrecover.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/De_teoria_a_practica_03.jpg\" alt=\"Mar\u00eda Gen\u00e9 organising the pharmacy \" class=\"wp-image-4718\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Mar\u00eda Gen\u00e9 organising the pharmacy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The importance of medicines<\/strong><br> Resource management is crucial when resources are scarce, especially when it comes to medicines. Pharmacist Sof\u00eda Olmeda, together with her colleagues Alba Plou and Mar\u00eda Gen\u00e9, were in charge of offering a training course on pharmacy management in different hospitals in Cameroon. After a first online training module that was a great success with the public, it was time to put all this information into practice. The three of them started a supervision trip to the pharmacies of the centres participating in the programme, where they were able to see first-hand the impact of the knowledge imparted, and also to improve the practices of local professionals in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\"I think they have grasped the concepts necessary for proper pharmacy management: stock calculations, calculations of average monthly consumption, safety stock calculations... All of this will help them to avoid medicines going out of stock,\" says Sof\u00eda. Her idea is that this training course can continue to be developed in the future, expanding to more hospitals and more regions of the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fundacionrecover.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Tres_Farmaceuticas.png\" alt=\"From theory to practice: how we train health professionals in the field\" class=\"wp-image-4729\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">From left to right, Alba Plou, Mar\u00eda Gen\u00e9 and Sof\u00eda Olmeda.  <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You never stop learning<\/strong><br>Both Maria and Sofia highlight the professional and personal lessons they took away from their experience in Cameroon. \"I have learned to wait, to adapt to other rhythms\", confesses Mar\u00eda. For her part, Sofia believes that \"the best way to help is to give them the tools to become independent\".
