{"id":7134,"date":"2024-08-19T12:55:33","date_gmt":"2024-08-19T10:55:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fundacionrecover.org\/?p=7134"},"modified":"2024-10-03T16:30:18","modified_gmt":"2024-10-03T14:30:18","slug":"burundis-first-anatomical-pathology-laboratory-up-and-running","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fundacionrecover.org\/en\/en-marcha-el-primer-laboratorio-de-anatomia-patologica-de-burundi\/","title":{"rendered":"Burundi's reference anatomical pathology laboratory now up and running"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This laboratory, in operation since the middle of the month, represents an important step towards <strong>giant step for the <a href=\"https:\/\/fundacionrecover.org\/en\/ponemos-en-marcha-el-primer-laboratorio-de-anatomia-patologica-de-burundi-en-colaboracion-con-fundacion-kyriku\/\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color\">diagnosis and treatment of various pathologies<\/mark><\/a><\/strong>. Thanks to it, it will be possible to <strong>accurately differentiate and diagnose infectious, malignant and benign tumour diseases<\/strong>. As pathologist Ana Bel\u00e9n Enguita explained, \"pathological anatomy will allow us to distinguish between infectious and tumoural processes, giving a name and surname to each disease\", which will facilitate the application of more appropriate and effective treatments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the mission, a team of nine Spanish volunteers from the Cl\u00ednica Dermatol\u00f3gica Internacional, Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre and Hospital de la Princesa, led by dermatologist Ricardo Ruiz Rodr\u00edguez, also worked to ensure the sustainability of the project. Local staff at the hospital have been trained, with very practical training that will help to ensure the sustainability of the project.<strong>es has allowed the laboratory to operate independently<\/strong> from the moment the volunteers' journey has ended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout the mission, the heads of the two foundations - including the director of Fundaci\u00f3n Recover - were also present, <a href=\"https:\/\/fundacionrecover.org\/en\/primer-laboratorio-de-anatomia-patologica-en-burundi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marta Mara\u00f1\u00f3n<\/a>and the head of Volunteering, Cristina Rodrigo-.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the laboratory facility, the <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fundacionrecover.org\/en\/discover-the-impact-of-our-mission-in-burundi\/\">mission also included a <strong>dermatological campaign<\/strong><\/a> <\/mark>during which 41 biopsies were taken and 49 patients were treated at Ngozi Hospital and a Missionaries of Charity clinic in northern Burundi. The samples are now being analysed in the new laboratory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mission was supported by the <strong>support from various entities<\/strong>. During the visit of the Governor of Ngozi, D\u00e9sir\u00e9 Minani, he stressed the importance of the project for the country's public health. Local television also covered the event, underlining the relevance of the laboratory for the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This mission has been made possible thanks to the support of our partners: Encantos de Menorca, Fundaci\u00f3n Roviralta, Vibra Hotels, Fundaci\u00f3n Sanitas and Fundaci\u00f3n Jim\u00e9nez D\u00edaz.
