Donation of equipment for a hospital laboratory

Thanks to the collaboration of the company Hersill, a haematology apparatus, a 12-tube centrifuge and laboratory consumables and reagents, among other materials, were recently purchased. The equipment will provide a direct annual benefit for 1,894 people and an indirect benefit for 8,537 people.

Thanks to Hersill's support, 8,500 patients a year in Cameroon will benefit from better health care.

Equipment donated by Hersill

The Catholique Mère Nazaria Health Centre is located in a rural area, in the municipality of Bamendjou, in the West region of Cameroon. The Recover Foundation has been collaborating with this centre since 2016, when it joined the Telemedicine Programme, in addition to carrying out a consultancy in 2021 to assess support for the acquisition of medical equipment.

One of the centre's needs was to have the equipment and materials essential for carrying out analyses for the prevention, diagnosis and response to the treatment of the patients attended. Thanks to the cooperation of the company HersillIn addition, a haematology apparatus, a 12-tube centrifuge and laboratory consumables and reagents, among other materials, were recently purchased. The equipment will provide a direct annual benefit for 1,894 people and indirect for 8,537 people.

In addition, this acquisition was complemented by the stay of a volunteer Kristina Babenhauserheide from Fundación Recover, who trained the professionals of the health centre's laboratory service. In addition to a better and more reliable laboratory service, this is expected to improve the skills of the staff. In the long term, this will lead to an increase in the number of patients coming to the hospital.

"We have worked together and, as we go along, I am training on issues that I consider important, especially biosafety: wearing gloves whenever we work with infectious material, cleanliness, order in the laboratory, etc. We have also modified a few protocols because we have seen that, in some cases, the results were not of the expected quality. We have also modified a few protocols because we have seen that, in some cases, the results did not give the expected quality," said the volunteer during her stay in Bamendjou.

The quality of medical care in Cameroon is low due to the state of the infrastructures, lack of equipment, irregular electricity supply, deficiencies in the supply of medicines, shortage of trained personnel and lack of financial resources. At the Recover Foundation we seek to offer a dignified and quality health service in Africa by focusing on the population and patients, which is why this type of alliance is necessary to achieve access to quality health care with a future for all people in Africa.
