Committed to health, committed to the future

In a recent interview on Cameroon's National Radio, Émérance Halima, mother of little David, wanted to share her experience with the Recover Foundation, which she highlighted as having transformed the life of her son and many other sickle cell patients in Cameroon.

David is one of the beneficiaries of the haemoglobinopathies campaign. "Thanks to Fundación Recover, David and many other patients like him receive the support they need to manage sickle cell disease. Parents of children with sickle cell disease face enormous expenses, such as regular consultations, laboratory tests and medication. The work of an NGO like Fundación Recover, which helps patients, is commendable, as it helps to reduce many of these expenses. I now know that my son's antibiotics and folic acid are guaranteed for a year, which is a great relief."said Émérance Halima, David's mother.

For her part, Sandrine Guélé said: ".The Foundation's commitment to the health and well-being of patients is truly remarkable.". Guélé is a nurse and knows what she is talking about, as she also suffers from sickle cell disease. During her intervention on the radio programme "Santé Plus Actu", Guélé shared her personal experience, emphasising the importance of preventive treatment and proper management of the disease.

Also present at the radio talk was the Recover Foundation's representative in Africa, Émilie Ngono, who highlighted the organisation's positive impact on the community affected by sickle cell disease in Africa. Sickle cell disease is a hereditary disease that mainly affects the African population, and can cause anaemia, chronic pain, infections and other serious health problems. In sub-Saharan Africa, it is one of the leading causes of infant mortality. It is estimated to affect approximately 300,000 newborns each year on the continent, and sadly, 40% of them die before they reach the age of five.
