surgery mission in Tanzania with Recover Foundation

In September, the Recover Foundation and Ratpanat Group carried out their first surgical mission in Tanzania, specifically at the Endulen Hospital, located in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. During this mission, the following were treated 250 patients and were carried out 37 surgeries, four of them paediatric.in six days.

The mission was led by Dr Laura Gómez and Dr Enrique Velasco, surgeons from Sanitas Hospitales and Hospital Gregorio Marañón, as well as members of the TRAINING via Telemedicine programmeof Fundación Recover. Thanks to their dedication and experience, together with the local health personnel, it was possible to respond to one of the greatest needs of the Maasai community in the region: access to surgical procedures.

The Endulen Hospital, which serves a dispersed Maasai population, is a mainstay of health in the area, as the nearest alternative is more than 200 kilometres away. The most common illnesses in the region include pneumonia, diarrhoea and upper respiratory tract infections in both children and adults, as well as cases of tuberculosis and HIV.

In addition to providing immediate medical care, this mission has laid the foundations for for two important projects: equipping the hospital which will significantly improve the surgical area and train local staff in the use of this new equipment, as well as in surgical techniques and post-operative care.

This intervention is part of the commitment of the Recover Foundation and Ratpanat with improving access to health care in disadvantaged communities. Through these actions, we hope to continue to strengthen the health system in the region and ensure that the Maasai population receives the care they need.

Thanks to all who have made this mission possible!
