Eva has been working as a volunteer in the patient accompaniment programme of the Recover Foundation for seven years. In this video, she shares what this experience means to her: accompanying people from Africa who arrive alone in Spain to undergo heart surgery or some other complex pathology that cannot be treated in their country of origin.
"When you are sick, in a country you don't know and with no one nearby, having someone to accompany you and guide you makes a big difference," Eva explains. During her testimony, she also recounts how gratifying it is to see how patients recover, to be able to share everyday moments with them and get to know their reality up close.
For Eva, this experience is invaluable. "Even to the extent of your possibilities, you give them a little bit of yourself... and you take a little bit of them with you," she concludes emotionally.
