In October, Dolores Pita, Director of General Services at the Jiménez Díaz Foundation and the Quirónsalud Hospitals, carried out a volunteering assignment in Cameroon with Fundación Recover with a very clear objective: to identify the needs and deficiencies in hospital management, especially in the areas of cleaning, restoration, laundry and facilities, in order to carry out an online training course for the staff of the healthcare centers. Training in this subject is fundamental to reduce the infections to which patients are exposed.
«I have been incredibly lucky that the Recover Foundation contacted us to carry out a training project in several centers in Cameroon, a country in which they have been developing their social activity for many years», said the volunteer herself. «We have been absolutely drawn to this idea from the very beginning because… who can say no to Africa?».

For seven days, Dolores and Cristina Rodrigo, the manager of the Recover training and volunteering program, had the opportunity to visit six health centers in the western regions and the capital of Cameroon. In their own words, «One would think that you come here to share a lot of experience. And yes, we will share a lot of training with our African colleagues, but of course we will also learn a lot from them.”.

Dolores also wanted to emphasize the importance of people in healthcare. «Hospitals don't build the facilities or equipment; hospitals and healthcare are built by people. We cannot forget that the axis of our life and our activity is our patient, but also our workers.» This reflection highlights the human value in providing healthcare, regardless of the differences that may exist in infrastructure or equipment.

In her testimony, Dolores shared her desire to see an increase in the number of collaborators on projects like this. «I would love to multiply by a million the number of collaborators on these projects,» she expressed enthusiastically. Her words summarize the passion and commitment that characterize the volunteers who participate in cooperation missions.
