Fundación Recover presents the results of 13 years of experience in Telemedicine in Cameroon

The seminar, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cameroon, brought together institutional representatives, healthcare professionals, and experts to discuss the role of telemedicine in equitable access to healthcare.

The Recover Foundation held the seminar in Yaoundé (Cameroon) “Telemedicine at the service of equitable access to care: the experience of Fundación Recover in Africa”, an event organized at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cameroon to share the results and lessons learned from 13 years of experience in Telemedicine.

The day was inaugurated by Marta Marañón Medina, General Director of Fundación Recover, and has been chaired by the His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cameroon, Chinmoun Oumarou, and the His Excellency the Ambassador of Spain in Cameroon, Juan Pedro Pérez-Gómez.

The seminar also included the participation of experts from World Health Organization (WHO), of the Ministry of Public Health of Cameroon, Representatives of civil society associations and professionals from Cameroonian healthcare centers. On behalf of Fundación Recover, the local team and Nery Villalobos, the Foundation’s coordinator in Cameroon, participated.

13 years connecting healthcare professionals

During the meeting, Fundación Recover presented the main results of its experience with the Telemedicine platform, a model launched in 2013 that connects healthcare professionals from African centers with volunteer specialists from Spain and other countries.

The platform allows facilitating the Support for diagnosis, continuing education and the exchange of medical knowledge, contributing to bringing specialized knowledge closer to healthcare professionals who carry out their work in different contexts in Africa.

In these 13 years of activity, the platform has recorded:

  • 3,800 cases of diagnosis shared.
  • 522 professionals registered from 8 countries in Africa.
  • 77 volunteer specialists from Spain, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany and Argentina.
  • 728 documents and bibliographical references Available in the library.

The seminar has also served as a space for exchange between institutions, healthcare professionals, and organizations related to health to share experiences and reflect on the possibilities of telemedicine as a tool to improve access to specialized care.

A report on the experience of Fundación Recover

On the occasion of the seminar, Fundación Recover has published the report “Telemedicine, a pragmatic solution to the medical deserts in the world: the offer of the Recover Foundation in Africa”, This report, which draws on the organization’s experience since the launch of its telemedicine platform, analyzes its contribution to diagnosis, training, and the exchange of knowledge among healthcare professionals.
